Everything a fete stall needs to turn sugar into fundraising. Machine hire with the mess handled, DIY kits sized in serves, and consumables at quantity pricing a P&C can defend at the next meeting. Flossy's has supplied Melbourne schools, clubs and community groups since 2002.

How much do we need?

Kits keep the maths easy: the small popcorn kit makes 100 serves, the large up to 1,000; a Fairy Floss Kit covers 100 large floss; the Snow Cone Kit does 100 (ice not included). Ring (03) 9761 7979 with your headcount and we'll size the order in one call.

Hire or buy?

One event a year — hire, with complimentary cleaning: you hand the machine back sticky. Running stalls every term — a machine of your own pays itself off, with 12-month warranty and phone support.

What about allergies?

Our popcorn range's butter flavour is dairy-free, and prepackaged bags list ingredients on the label.

Term 4 is fete season and hire books out — lock your October–December weekend early. Schools and clubs can contact us about invoice-friendly ordering.

Planning your fete stall

Committees ask us the same questions every October. Here are the answers, with the real numbers off our hire machines, so you can size the stall before you order.

How fast can we actually serve?

This is the number that decides your queue, and it is the one most stalls guess wrong:

• Fairy floss — up to 200 serves an hour
• Popcorn, 8oz machine — 225 bags (20g) or 112 boxes (40g) an hour
• Popcorn, 12oz machine — 336 bags or 168 boxes an hour

A three-hour fete on one fairy floss machine tops out around 600 serves. If you are expecting more than that, the answer is a second machine, not a longer queue — one stall that runs out at 1pm makes less than two that run all afternoon.

How many people do we need?

One person can keep two machines going if it is a steady trickle. Once there is a queue, it is one person per machine — and at peak, two on the busy one, so somebody is bagging while somebody else is spinning. Popcorn is the forgiving one: it can be popped ahead and bagged, so a queue never stalls. Fairy floss is made to order and is what draws the crowd, so give it the space for a line.

What do we need to bring?

A table, and an extension cord — the machines run from an ordinary power point but we do not supply the lead. Check with the school where the nearest outlet is before the day, and if your stall is out on the oval rather than beside a building, ring us and we will talk it through.

If your fete is at a temporary venue — a park, a reserve, a carnival site — phone us before you book. Those jobs need a conversation, not a checkout.

Will it work outdoors?

Yes, with two caveats worth knowing before you set up. Fairy floss does not keep — it is best made and handed straight over, so spin to the queue rather than building a stockpile. And wind is the enemy: it lifts the floss straight out of the bowl. Put the fairy floss machine under a marquee with a back to the breeze, or somewhere sheltered. Popcorn does not mind the weather anywhere near as much.

What supplies come with a machine?

Everything you need to serve. Per 100 popcorn serves in bags: 400g oil, 1.5kg corn, 50g seasoning and 100 bags. In boxes, double the oil and corn: 800g, 3kg, 100g seasoning and 100 boxes. Fairy floss hire includes sticks and flavoured sugar — one flavour per 100 serves, up to three flavours, so a fete can run raspberry, blue and one wildcard.

One rule to know before you shop elsewhere: for allergen control and certification, only supplies from Flossy's or included with the hire can be used with our machines. It is not an upsell — it is how we can stand behind what comes out of them.

Hire, or buy?

One fete a year — hire. Cleaning is included, so the machine goes back sticky and nobody spends Sunday with a scourer. Hire is Melbourne delivery only.

A stall every term, or a canteen alongside it — buying usually pays for itself inside a couple of years, with a 12-month warranty and phone support if something plays up mid-event.

Booking and paying

Quantity discounts are printed on every product page and apply automatically to every buyer — nothing to apply for, no code to enter. Schools, clubs and community groups can contact us about invoice-friendly ordering if your treasurer needs an invoice rather than a card on the day.

Book on a weekday. We cannot take a weekend booking for that same weekend, or a public-holiday booking on the day — it has to be locked in during business hours beforehand. For anything last-minute, ring us rather than ordering online.

When to book

Term 4 is fete season and hire books out. Most schools lock their October–December weekend in weeks ahead. There is a second, quieter run of fetes in February and March — if yours is a term-1 fete the same advice applies, with more availability.
